نظير٢ [مفرد]: ج نظراءُ، مؤ نظيرة، ج مؤ نظائرُ: مُناظِر وشبيه ومساوٍ ومثل في الأهميَّة أو الرُّتبة أو الدَّرجة "هذا الحاسوب الجديد نظير الحاسوب الذي حصلت عليه- استقبل وزيرُ الخارجيَّة نظيرَه" ° فلان مُنقطِعُ النَّظير: ليس له شبيه. مُراعاة النَّظير: (دب) جمع كلمات أو عبارات متناسبة بحيث يتقوَّى المعنى بمعاني الكلمات أو العبارات الأخرى أو الجمع بين الشيء وما يناسبه بغير تضادّ، كالسوق والبيع والدَّلاَّل.

١. "هُوَ نَظِيرُهُ": مَثِيلُهُ، الْمُسَاوِي لَهُ. "لاَ نَظِيرَ لَهُ" "لَيْسَ لَهُ نَظِيرٌ". ٢. "مُنْقَطِعُ النَّظِيرِ": وَحِيدٌ فِي بَابِهِ. ٣. "نَظِيرَةُ الْجَيْشِ": طَلِيعَتُهُ. ٤. "النَّظِيرُ فِي عِلْمِ الْفَلَكِ": نُقْطَةٌ فِي السَّمَاءِ عَلَى خَطٍّ عَمُودِيٍّ مِنَ الْمُرَاقِبِ تَحْتَ قَدَمَيْهِ مُبَاشَرَةً.

mid-15c., countre part "duplicate of a legal document," from French contrepartie, from contre "facing, opposite" (contra (prep., adv.)) + partie "copy of a person or thing," originally fem. past participle of partir "to divide".
Meaning "corresponding part, part that answers to another" is from 1630s. Sense of "person or thing exactly resembling another" is from 1670s; that of "person or thing serving as the equivalent of another in a different context" is by 1903.
