بَبْغاء [مفرد]: ج بَبْغاوات: (حن) بَبَّغاء؛ طائر من الفصيلة البَبْغاويَّة، حسن اللّون والصّورة، منقاره قصير معقوف، وريشه ملوّن، وله القدرة على تقليد كلام الناس، ويُشبَّه به مَن حفِظ كلامًا لا يدري معناه، ويطلق على الذكر والأنثى.

بَبَّغاءُ - ج: بَبَّغاوَاتٌ. (حو). ١. :طَيْرٌ مِنْ فَصِيلَةِ البَبَّغَاوَاتِ، لَهُ مِنْقَارٌ قَصِيرٌ ضَخْمٌ مَعْقُوفٌ، لِقَدَمِهِ أُصْبُعَان إلى الأمام وأُصْبُعانِ إلى الخَلْفِ، وَهُوَ طَائِرٌ يَتَميَّزُ بِألْوانِهِ الزَّاهيَةِ، لَهُ قُدْرَةٌ عَلَى تَقْليدِ الأصْواتِ وَترْدِيدِ مَا يَسْمَعُهُ مِنْ كَلاَمِ الإنْسَانِ. ٢. "لاَ تَكُنْ مِثْلَ البَبَّغَاءِ": أيْ لاَ تُعِدْ كَلاَم النَّاسِ، كُنْ مُبْدِعاً، مُبْتَكِراً.
